This recently completed terraced garden for an imposing new-build property in Devon presented a number of garden design challenges.

CGI plan view of new Devon garden
the lower terrace of the original garden had been predominantly left to lawn – replacing that with curved aggregate pathways winding through generous planting areas helped soften the new-build property's imposing walls whilst also helping to increase bio-diversity. Three large wooden trellises adorn the walls to be covered in climbing plants such as Thrachelospermum and Clematis. Height was given to the planting using multi-stem Amelanchiers lamarkii, Magnolia "Susan" and multi-stem Prunus lusitanica "Augustifolia" which all help to screen the upper terrace from the neighbouring garden.

The garden planting is becoming more established
The Devon garden is beginning to grow into itself as the planting becomes more established (above).
Existing bricks and slate coping stones found on site were used to construct a new wall and pillars segregating the terrace whilst many of the box balls were salvaged from the original garden to use within the new planting scheme.
